Lesson: Case III Recovery

Phase 1: Lecture

Overview & Purpose

Student will view powerpoint presentations in preparation for Case III practical.

Education Standards

  • Student will be taught all related patterns and altitudes.
  • Student will be taught all Case III related comms.
  • Student will be taught how to land on the carrier deck.

Objectives

  1. Student will prepare, study and practice for Case III practical.

Verification

  1. Mentor will loosely quiz student regarding procedures, altitudes etc.
  2. Mentor will ensure the student has all necessary study aides to prepare for practical.

Phase 2: Practical

Overview & Purpose

Utilization of all taught skills to successfully recover on the USS George Washington under Case III conditions.

Education Standards

  • Student will depart Marshall airspace using appropriate departure comms until free of the CCA.
  • Student will re-enter the CCA making contact with marshall until commencement.
  • Student will successfully trap.

Objectives

  1. Launch and depart marshall airspace.
  2. Reenter CCA following descent profiles until marshall stack.
  3. Enter Marshall stack until push time.
  4. Descend for platform.
  5. Lined up and prepped for landing no farther than 6 miles.
  6. Successful trap.

Verification

  1. Minimum of 2 mentors required for control of the boat.
  2. Mentors will verify successfully comm usage.
  3. Mentors will asses students need before CQ recomendation.
  4. Tolerances - Altitude - +/- 200 feet agl. Speed - +/- 25 knots.

Activity

If extra mentors are available, fly wing with student so extra comms steps may be practiced. Mentor will provide no support for student.
