Lesson: AOA and Landing
Overview & Purpose
Introduce basic concepts of lift, drag and angle of attack.
Education Standards
- Student will practice throttle control along with level straight flight.
- Student will dirty up and continue practicing throttle control and straight and level flight.
- Student will learn basic principles and usage of AOA flight.
- Student will land at Senaki using a straight in approach.
Objectives
- Student will demonstrate ability to maintain speed and altitude assignments.
- Student will demonstrate ability to maintain altitude while dropping gear and/or flaps.
- Student will lead mentor from practice area back to Senaki airspace using all appropriate comms.
- Student will successfully land without over stressing airframe.
Verification
- Mentor will monitor all speeds and altitude changes made by the student.
- Mentor will ensure student is able to successfully employ and maintain AOA flight.
- Mentor will monitor all airfield procedures and etiquette upon entering Senaki airspace and continue until student is parked.
Activity
Begin all practice no lower than 5000 feet AGL. Once student demonstrates all necessary abilities, mentor may use his or her discretion to practice skills at lower altitudes.
